Where the Streets have No Name

The study area comprises Rau and colonies abutting the Western Ring Road. The total area of the site is 40 sq.km and is a node for inter and intra  state transport. The state is the economic capital of the state and attracts large number of population. The BRTS is a major rapid transit system in the city which has been attached to the NMT transit to improve mobility within the city.

Objective:

To develop an area circulation plan for the a traffic analysis zone in Indore

Project Duration:

eighteen weeks

Growth of Indore

The city of Indore is developing at a rapid pace. It is consistently ranked as the cleanest city in India. It serves as the headquarters of both the Indore District and the Indore Division. It is also considered the state education hub and houses campuses of both the Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Management.

Growth Pattern under TOD

Chandan Nagar

Major commercial junction in the site area

Lalbagh

Has several public spaces around this area and houses a lot of older households

Footi Kothi

Majorly a residential area acting as a traffic feeder for the sub arterial road

Gopur Square

Towards a more residential place and sees huge loads of traffic on a daily basis

Modes of Transit

The different transport services in the study area have an organization among themselves, seeping into the local streets. The most prominent modes used are 2W and 4W. However, IPT and buses are important modes of transit in the site.

Proximity Circles

In transit-oriented development, certain areas are demarcated for specific transit modes. These are based on the concept of proximity to different land uses. These proximity circles essentially act as districts where certain modes of transit are feasible. In the case of this study area, with a growing development mixed-use grows around the major nodes. As a result, these zones or circles become walking zones for the surrounding neighborhoods.

Feeder Lanes & BRTS

BRTS or Bus Rapid Transit System is a major boom for the city of Indore. So the idea of having an integrated Traffic System is more practical by taking the BRTS as a major mode of transit for its population. As a whole integrating the local route as feeders to different arterial roadworks in cohesion with the existing system in place.
